Jessica Stiffler from Sarnia, Ontario, did not see another option than to file a case against two casinos where she had been a regular guest in the last two years. Somehow she managed to gamble away more than $ 5 million in a couple of years. Now she tries to blame the casinos for her irresponsible behavior.
Stiffler has filed a lawsuit against both the places where she used to hang out after work and on the weekends. She claims that these two places are responsible for her gambling addiction. It is not surprising that she is trying to go after the casinos, an observer of the gambling industry says. Stiffler misused almost the same amount she owes to the casinos from her working place probably with the aim to pay off the debt. “She was not able to take responsibility for her action”, the insider says. “Now she tries to solve the situation by filing a case.”
When her debt accumulated more than $5 million she started secretly transferring money from her employer’s account to a number account on the Caymen Islands. Since she was the managing director of the sales department of a multimillion dollar company she had been able to do that without anybody noticing.
After her boss, who occasionally joined her on gambling trips to the nearby casinos, had found out about her illegal activities, she lost her job and was assumed liability for the loss. Stiffler, however, plead guilty to deception of $5,000 only. Only a few days later she decided to sue her two favorite casinos and claims that they were actually to blame for her addiction to gambling since they did not take any action to stop her. She asks them for $10,000,000 compensation for the consequences she has to bear from the addiction.
